Texas State Finds Fliers Urging Individuals To Report Undocumented Individuals

Texas State maintenance crews spent this morning removing fliers calling for individuals to report undocumented immigrants from all over campus.

President Denise Trauth said the university will continue to follow the state law and will not report immigrants without documentation to the authorities.

In November, students, faculty and staff presented a petition to make Texas State a sanctuary campus. According to the petition, by becoming a sanctuary campus, the university would ensure the safety of undocumented faculty, staff and students. On Nov. 27, Governor Greg Abbott tweeted that he would be signing a law banning any Texas city or university from declaring “sanctuary status.”  The Governor also said on Dec. 1 that he would cut funding to any university that defied the law and declared themselves “sanctuaries.”

Though President Trauth said the university would continue to protect the privacy of its students, staff and faculty, but the school will not go against state law and assume sanctuary status.
