Texas State Cross Country Teams Regionally Ranked Heading To SBC Championships

Both teams head into the Sun Belt Championships as the highest ranked teams in the conference.

San Marcos, Texas – Both of Texas State’s cross country teams are regionally ranked in the final rankings before the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday. The men are eighth and the women are 14th in the South Central region.

The men began the year eighth regionally and remained in the spot until after the Texas A&M Invitational that was held on Sept. 23. A fourth place finish by the team along with top 25 finishes from Jose Angel Gonzalez, Joseph Meade and Logan Pittdman jumped the Bobcats into seventh place in the regional rankings.

A third place finish at the Chile Pepper Festival saw TXST hold on to the seventh position in the region. Since then, the Bobcats dropped to eighth after being idle.

The women were unranked when the season began. A 10th-place team finish behind top 100 finishes out of nearly 400 runners from Madilyn King, McKynzie King, Kendra Long, Nikki Sanchez and Devina Schneider in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Chile Pepper Festival saw the Bobcats enter the rankings at 13th regionally.

Having not run since like the men, the women dropped a spot to 14th. Both teams head into the Sun Belt Championships as the highest ranked teams in the conference.

The SBC Championships take place on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Boone, North Carolina beginning at 9 a.m. CDT with the women’s 5K and the men’s 8K will follow start an hour later. Both races will be streamed lived on ESPN3.
