Track & Field to Send 16 to NCAA West Preliminary Meet

The Texas State track and field teams will be sending 16 student-athletes to the meet that to compete in 13 individual events and two relays.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Thursday, the list of participants for the NCAA West Preliminary Round meet that will take place May 24-26 at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California were announced.

The Texas State track and field teams will be sending 16 student-athletes to the meet that to compete in 13 individual events and two relays.

The top 48 athletes in each individual event and the top 24 relay teams qualified for the West regional. Individuals and relays that finish in the top 12 will advance to the championship weekend in Eugene, Oregon taking place June 6-9.

Both Tramesha Hardy and DeAijha Hicks-Boyce will compete in two individual events apiece. The sprinters will each run in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Hardy enters next weekend with the 12th fastest at 22.95, the second quickest time of her career and in program history.

Also competing on the track for the women are Esther Oyetunde (800m), Kylah Smith (100m hurdles) and Sydni Willis (400m hurdles).

Mylana Hearn will be competing in her fourth NCAA West Preliminary meet in the triple jump. The Missouri City, Texas native is aiming to return to the championship meet for the third straight year. She is a two-time All-American with second team honors coming in 2016 and honorable mention in 2017.

Competing on the 4x400m relay are Dawnshae Evans, Hardy, Oyetunde and Willis.

Representing the men’s team in individual track events are Christopher Green (400m hurdles), Lincoln Warren (400m) and Carlos Wilson (100m). At the Sun Belt Conference Championships, Wilson set the school record in the finals of the 100m in 10.24.

He is one of nine freshmen running in the quickest race on the track and enters with the top time among them. Green ran a personal best 51.99 in the 400m hurdles final at the Sun Belt Conference Championships to take home the bronze.

T’Mond Johnson enters with the sixth best distance in the region for the shot put at 19.79m (64-11.25). He recorded the mark at the SBC Championships to break his own school record that he set back in March.

Compete for the third time in the NCAA West Preliminary meet in the triple jump is Alvin Chikaeze. Also heading to Sacramento to participate in a field event are Ronnie Briscoe (long jump) and Bobby Smith (discus).

The men’s 4x100m relay of Jaylen Allen, De’Marcus Porter, Warren and Wilson enter the preliminary meet with the 14th fastest time in the region at 38.89. It was set at the Sun Belt Championships and is the second quickest in TXST history.

The regional meet starts on Thursday with the men’s hammer throw and women’s javelin at 2 p.m. CDT. The first track event, the men’s 400m hurdles, begin at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
