San Marcos Turns Flood Debris Removal Over To Hays County

City officials have transitioned debris removal to Hays County’s debris management contractor, a robust company that can more quickly and efficiently remove storm debris.  This transition will allow city staff to focus on other storm-related infrastructure needs.
Debris bins will be removed from neighborhoods and debris should now be sorted and placed on the curb. Make sure it does not impede traffic.  Also, debris should be accessible from the road because removal personnel cannot go onto private property to pick up debris.  Debris should not be placed on or near utility boxes, mailboxes or storm drainage areas.
This removal process will take weeks and there will be several rounds of removal for each area.  If you notice that debris has been removed and you have more, it will be removed as soon as your area is scheduled for another removal. Authorities have personnel checking areas where debris is piling up to alert the removal experts of the community’s needs.
Sorting Debris & Trash
Residents with flood debris should sort it into several piles:
  • Building materials like sheetrock, wood, and insulation should be bagged together and put at curb with other trash.
  • Household hazardous waste should be separated and placed at the curb for pickup.
