Austin airport advances expansions to meet record-breaking passenger activity

The same week it reported a record-breaking March, Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) released renderings on April 28 of a new three-gate expansion on the west side of the terminal.

AUS passenger traffic growth for March was up 147.83 percent compared to March 2021.

More than 1.82 million passengers flew into or out of the airport setting a record for its busiest month ever.

The expansion is currently in the design process, and construction is anticipated to begin in late 2023 or early 2024. This increase in gate capacity is one of the airport’s efforts to support more flights. In addition to this expansion, AUS is renovating the old, unused Gate 13 to support off-schedule and irregular flights such as diversions with a remote bus operation.

These Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP) projects are in addition to plans for a new midfield concourse that will have a minimum of 10 gates and be expandable for future growth.

To deliver these AEDP projects, AUS is seeking qualified firms to respond to a contracting opportunity for airport program management support consultant services.

AUS is soliciting an experienced firm with demonstrated technical capabilities and aviation experience to provide program, project, and construction management support services for airport facilities including airside, landside, terminal, utility, and related infrastructure projects.

The consultant will be integrated into a city-led, multi-department airport improvement program team that will be a blend of city and consultant staff.
