San Marcos City Council To Hold Budget Workshop Thursday

Council members will consider two items during the budget workshop: the 2018 tax rate and the preliminary fiscal year 2018-2019 budget.

The San Marcos City Council will hold a budget workshop Thursday afternoon to consider two items regarding the 2018-2019 budget.

Council members will consider the approval of “a proposal to set the 2018 tax rate at a maximum of 61.39 cents per $100 valuation.”

The effective tax rate for the tax year 2018 is currently 58.99 cents per $100 valuation according to the agenda packet. And the rollback rate for the 2018 tax year is 65.96 per $100 valuation.

The city’s proposed tax rate is the same as tax year 2017.

The second item on the agenda for the budget meeting is a staff presentation and discussion of the preliminary fiscal year 2018-2019 budget. Council members are expected to provide direction to staff.

The public hearings for the 2018 tax rate are scheduled for August 21 and September 4. Council members will then consider the adoption of the proposed tax rate on September 18.
