Austin Planning RFP To Redevelop Site For $26M-$35M Mixed-Use Project
Staff
Austin Economic Development Department officials are recommending a request for proposals (RFP) to redevelop two adjacent city-owned properties into one of four mixed-use district scenarios developed by a university report.
The vision for the sites would include affordable housing, open space for recreation, and space for community retail and support services.
Two scenarios feature a street network and 240 to 300 mixed-income housing units at 906 E. Saint Johns Ave. and 7309 N. Interstate 35.
The other two scenarios include a single public road across the site and 140 to 240 mixed-income housing units. All scenarios call for commercial space along I-35
and open space for recreation.
Cost estimates to develop one of the scenarios range from $26 million to $36 million.
Before moving to an RFP phase, staff recommends Austin City Council conduct a work session to provide input on financing options, the desired timeline for the RFP, and level of support for draft RFP criteria.
