SMHS Diamond Line Set the Standard in Spring Championship Competitions

February and March 2015 were a busy competition season for the San Marcos High School Diamond Line dance team, and they have the trophies to prove their success. By the end of March their many accolades included State Champions of the American Texas State Dance Championship and National Champions in lyrical, jazz, and production in the Showtime International Nationals held at Moody Gardens.
 
The stage was set at the Crowd Pleasers competition held February 14, 2015, at Canyon High School in New Braunfels. The team placed first in lyrical/pom/production and was first runners-up for jazz and contemporary. Team awards included: Outstanding Precision, Super Sweepstakes, 1st runner up Grand Champions, Showcase Elite, and Superior Sportsmanship. Officer awards included: 1st place in novelty, Crowd Pleaser, and outstanding choreography.
 
Officers earned 1st runners up for jazz and lyrical, 2nd runner up for contemporary, Super Sweepstakes, Showcase Elite, and 1st runners up Grand Champions. The Company awards included 1st runners up for High School Elite team, 2nd runners up for Spirit Leaders, and High School Social Officers. Oliva Neal and Emily Gonzalez were named 2nd runners up in Duet.
 
The awards continued at the Showmakers of American Texas State Dance Championships held at Texas State University on February 20-21, 2015. The Diamond Line team took 1st play in lyrical, pom, jazz, and production and 3rd place for contemporary. They also took home Sweepstakes, Line of Champions, and State Champion honors. The officers earned 1st place in jazz and novelty and 2nd place for contemporary and lyrical. Officers were named Sweepstakes, Line of Champions, and State Champions. As a Company, the group earned 2nd place for medium ensemble. Oliva Neal and Emily Gonzalez took 1st place in Duet. Solo finalists 9-10 were Samantha Anderson, Kylie Beal, and Lily Ybarra. Drake Driscoll took 4th place in solo 9-10. Solo finalists for 11-12 were Esme Medrano and Oliva Neal. Emily Gonzalez took 4th place honors in solo 11-12.
 
The final event was the Showtime International Nationals held at Galveston’s Moody Gardens on March 28-29, 2015. The Diamond Line team was National Champions in lyrical, jazz, and production, 2nd place for contemporary and pom, and they won the Applause Award for Choreography. The Officers were National Champions in novelty, and came in 2nd place for contemporary, jazz, and lyrical. The Company was 1st runner up in large ensembles. Solo finalists included Drake Driscoll (10th grade) and Emily Gonzalez (11th grade).
