The Austin Animal Center and Austin Pets Alive! have teamed up to waive adoption fees in the face of overcrowded shelters. Both shelters are waiving adoption fees starting today Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7.

All animals at the Austin Animal Center are eligible for a waived fee adoption. At Austin Pets Alive!, dogs over six months of age and all cats are eligible for the promotion.

The Austin Animal Center is currently caring for close to 1000 animals who are in need of a loving home. A summer population surge, followed by recent weeks of inclement weather have led to the current situation. Medium and large dogs need the most help and many are being held in offices, meeting rooms and on the shelter’s truck port while they wait for a kennel.
