Prominent Figure Of The National “Sanctuary Movement” — Austin City Councilman Greg Casar — To Talk In San Marcos Friday
This week, Casar has been in federal court, pursuing a lawsuit brought by Austin, San Antonio & other cities against the state of Texas for Senate Bill 4: the most extreme anti-immigrant law in the nation, set to take effect in September.

SAN MARCOS, TX — Rising star of progressive politics, Councilman Gregorio “Greg” Casar — the 28-year-old son of Mexican immigrants & an accomplished community organizer whom the Austin Chronicle crowned “Best Elected Official” in 2015 — has catapulted into the national spotlight recently due to his principled stand against Senate Bill 4, culminating with his arrest last month at a sit-in protest inside Governor Greg Abbott’s office.
This week, Casar has been in federal court, pursuing a lawsuit brought by Austin, San Antonio & other cities against the state of Texas for Senate Bill 4: the most extreme anti-immigrant law in the nation, set to take effect in September.
In San Marcos, nearly 500 signatures have been gathered on a petition calling for San Marcos City Council to likewise join the lawsuit; half of those collected are online here.
Over two-dozen businesses — including Root Cellar Cafe, Tantra Coffeehouse, Jo’s Cafe, Vagabond, Gil’s Broiler, Redbud Roasters, Bower Bird Antiques, Dahlia Woods Gallery, 218 Co-op Gallery, Rio Claro Studios, among numerous others — have endorsed the call for City Council to take action.
The Councilman’s talk will be held on Friday, June 30 at the LBJ Museum, 131 North Guadalupe St in San Marcos.
