UPDATED: City Of San Marcos Issues Scam Alert For Local Businesses
On Tuesday, the City of San Marcos released a scam alert for local businesses.
According to officials, multiple businesses have reported being contacted by a company known as “Allied Compliance Group”.
This company has been informing businesses that their posted Labor Law materials are incorrect or out of date, and are charging money for replacement posters.
The company has been targeting restaurants and auto repair shops, but may move on to other businesses.
Labor Law Posters are free and available online for businesses. Businesses will never be charged for replacement posters.

Yesterday, representatives of the Community Outreach Unit of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office along with Ozona Bank representative Dana Slover met with a group of Wimberley area citizens at the Wimberley Community Center.
The group was given a short presentation on financial scams and fraud. The group was told that these scams are very prevalent throughout Hays County.
In fact, two cases were recently reported to the Sheriff’s Office in which the victims were scammed out of several thousand dollars each.
Literature was provided to assist those in attendance in recognizing scams, preventative measures, and reporting such activity to law enforcement.
These scams and fraud cover a wide variety of activity, and it seems new ones are being “tested” on potential victims all the time. Currently the AARP website list approximately 60 common scams (https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/).
According to Consumer Reports, only an estimated 14 percent of victims reported the scam, whether because they were embarrassed, felt it was futile, or simply didn’t know where to report it.
But reporting is important because it establishes accurate statistics on the number of people affected and because the FBI and other law enforcement agencies devote considerable resources to breaking up fraud rings.
