May Happenings At San Marcos Airport

Water Line Upgrades

Upgrades the Airport’s water line are underway and as long as it isn’t raining, crews will be working along Airport Drive and at the entrance.

The project includes the realignment of the drive to the Air Traffic Control Tower to aid in drainage and to repair failing pavement.

The drive was closed Tuesday May 24 and will remain closed for the next 2-3 weeks.

The line will increase from 8″ to 12″ to better accommodate the needs of existing and future tenants. Sections of the 8″ wastewater line that are beyond repair will be replaced at this time. The project is slated for completion in the fall.

Please be on the lookout for heavy equipment maneuvering around the ramp and roadways!

 Security Fence

The fencing project is nearly complete!

Once the Tower Drive realignment mentioned above is done, the final gate will be installed.

We anticipate gates will be operational toward the end of June.

Prior to any gates being turned on, the gate code will be shared with all users via e-newsletter. All gates and users will have the same code.

As a reminder, the purpose of the controlled access is to limit the number of non-pilot drivers operating around aircraft. For this reason we ask that the code be used by pilots and airport users only and that all visitors and vendors utilize the parking areas outside the fence.

Several pedestrian access points can be found along the fence line like the one pictured above.

If you know a based pilot who does not receive our newsletters, we encourage them to sign up using this link: http://bit.ly/airportnewsletter.

Runway 13/31 Project

May’s weather has certainly kept things interesting around here! After the years of drought, we wouldn’t dare curse the rain but it has sure made scheduling the coal tar
seal a bit tricky.

Once again we’re asking you to keep an eye on your inbox. We’ll send out a special newsletter prior to the project start.

During the application, the runway will be closed for a week and striping will occur shortly there after.

Please continue to check NOTAMs and don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions. We thank you for your continued patience.

Entrance Light

Been to the airport at night lately? If so, you’ve probably noticed the entrance light that was installed by TxDOT a few weeks ago.

TxDOT will be rotating the light to face Highway 21 so finding the entrance will be that much easier at night.

Look for the final adjustment to take place in the coming weeks. And thanks to newly appointed Advisory Board member Tom Roach for helping make this happen!
