Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, part of Ascension, the largest nonprofit health system in the U.S. and the world’s largest Catholic health system will unveil a new, hand-carved angel wing sculpture in honor of former patient, Benjamin Daniel Breedlove.

Artist Bobby Jacobs created the sculpture out of fossilized bluestone and donated it to the hospital on behalf of Ben and the Breedlove family.

Ben, a former Dell Children’s patient, suffered from a serious heart condition that caused him to go into cardiac arrest at least four times. During these episodes Ben felt the presence of angels and the peace of heaven. He described these memories in a video called, “This is my story”. On Christmas Day of 2011, Ben passed away. He was just 18 years old. Shortly after his death, Ben’s family found the video he had made and shared it with the world on YouTube. The video went viral, reaching nearly 15 million viewers.

A dedication of “Gabriel”, the angel wing sculpture in honor of Ben will take place this Saturday, October 1, from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the hospital’s healing garden.
