End of Watch Ride stops in San Marcos to honor Officer Justin Putnam

Staff Reports

On Sunday, June 13, 2021, the non-profit organization Beyond the Call of Duty will stop in San Marcos during its End of Watch Ride to Remember in honor of fallen officer Justin Putnam. Two trailers with photos of fallen officers from across the country will be parked at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E Hopkins St., beginning at 11:15 a.m.

Each year, Beyond the Call of Duty honors fallen officers by traveling to cities and departments that have lost men and women in the line of duty. This year San Marcos is the 25th stop on the group’s route, which will honor 338 law enforcement professionals killed in 2020. The full ride will take 84 days to complete and will cover more than 22,000 miles.

The End of Watch Ride to Remember event takes its name from an End of Watch or final radio call that is issued to a fallen officer followed by a moment of silence.

“We want to show departments that have lost partners and friends that they are not alone,” said Beyond the Call of Duty founder Jagrut Shah. “The annual End of Watch Ride to Remember allows us to show officers and families that their loss has not been forgotten.”

Members of the public are invited to visit the Activity Center parking lot on June 13 to view the trailers and show support to Officer Putnam and the San Marcos Police Department. The trailers are expected to arrive at approximately 11:15 a.m. The group will leave San Marcos no later than 1:15 p.m. and travel to its next stop in Mission, TX.
