Hays County Voters Invited to Visit Bond Referendum Website to Learn about Propositions on November Ballot
Hays County voters interested in learning more about the two propositions on the November ballot are invited to visit www.HaysCountyBonds.com to watch informational videos about the bond items they are being asked to consider:
- Proposition 1, which includes a jail expansion, co-located 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, emergency operations center, law enforcement center and training facility.
- Proposition 2, which includes safety and mobility improvements for a number of roads in the county and specifically excludes certain improvements to some roads.
The website contains the full official proposition language for both propositions and the language that will be seen on the ballot, which is known as the “ballot language.”
Ballot language is a shortened version of the official proposition language approved by the Court. If approved by the voters, the official bond proposition language (the long version) is what will control Hays County’s obligation to its citizens.
In addition to details about the two propositions, citizens can also go to the website to learn about the process undertaken for determining what was placed on the ballots, view the ballot language in Spanish, learn how to register to vote and how to early vote, and ask questions about the bond propositions.
Hays County elected officials are spending taxpayer money to promote this $238 million bond issue, although I have not talked to a single person in Hays County who was in favor of either Prop. 1 or 2.
The roads being considered are not necessarily the ones we need to fix or expand (like 3237 to Wimberley at a cost of $14 million) and no citizens were consulted about what went into this bond, just politicians, road engineering firms, construction firms and other people who stand to make a living using public money as their revenue source.

Hays County has enough debt already. No more debt. No more tax hikes. Vote NO on Prop’s 1 and 2.
I’ve lived in Hays County for 45 years. Love where I live enough to know that I will confidently be voting NO on Prop 1 & 2. Haven’t heard of many folks who are supporting this — except for the influence peddlers and elected reps who will benefit.
We need property tax relief here in Hays County. Adding debt will not help our problems.
And that jail remodel might only last 5 years? Pfffft. This is way to expensive and does too little.
