Cottage Kitchen Guild Committee Cancels September Lunches

Last week, the Heritage Association Guild committee, whose volunteers oversee the Cottage Kitchen Friday lunches had to make a tough decision when they couldn’t obtain lunch hosts or sponsors for September. The lunches have been on their regular July and August summer hiatus.

The Cottage Kitchen luncheons have been a San Marcos tradition since 1976. The weekly luncheons provide an opportunity to gather with friends and other San Marcans, where they can come together, enjoy a meal, the company and a part of San Marcos’ past.

The sponsoring hosts provide the food and servers while the diners receive a full meal deal for only $8.00. All the lunch proceeds are then donated to the Heritage Association to benefit an organization that supports the preservation of historic buildings and celebrates the culture and traditions that beautify and enrich the San Marcos community.

The Cottage Kitchen began more than 40 years ago inside the Charles S. Cock home, a historic stone house that is listed in the National Register. Charles S. Cock was a pioneer and a former mayor of San Marcos.

Volunteers are the backbone of nonprofit organizations, and their survival would be difficult without them. If you would like additional information to become a volunteer, click HERE.

The Heritage Association of San Marcos is a nonprofit organization chartered in 1975 to support the preservation of buildings, historic sites, and archives as well as to perpetuate traditions that beautify and enrich the community life of this city.

The Association grew out of the San Marcos Bicentennial Commission, which was formed in 1972 to plan and coordinate the city’s celebration of the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976.

Since its founding, the Heritage Association has been responsible for many beloved community traditions, including the traditional Friday luncheons at the Cottage Kitchen.

According to the Guild, the lunches will resume in October and November. The Guild and its partners look forward to seeing customers on the first Friday in October.

New lunch sponsors are needed and can contact the Guild at 512-392-4295 for more info.
