Hays County Commissioners Approve Agreement With Austin For APFI System Connectivity

Staff Reports

On Tuesday, Hays County Commissioners approved an agreement with the City of Austin’s fingerprint and palm identification system.

Commissioners voted unanimously to execute an interlocal agreement for Hays County connectivity to the Austin Police Department’s Automated Palm and Fingerprint Identification System (APFIS).

The Austin Police Department’s Gemalto Cogent Automated Biometric Identification System is used for identification processing involving the book and criminal justice system.

Connection to the system will also allow Hays County to search the database for matches during investigations.

The County will pay its own costs and expenses in performing its responsibilities under the agreement according to documentation.

Commissioner Mark Jones thanked the City of Austin for working with Hays County to make the agreement and access to the system happen.
