Hays County Emergency Management Seeks Flood, Storm Damage Reports For Tracking Purposes

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Emergency Management Office is seeking information about the storms that brought heavy rain and flooding, high winds, hail and lightning to parts of  Hays County Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

Hays County OES has created a new way for the community to report storm damage to Emergency Management – there is now a digital form at www.HaysInformed.com that can be accessed from any computer, tablet, or smartphone. The form is “Report Storm Damage” under the Emergency Links tab.

“One of the ways we get accurate historical data on storms, their paths and the damage they cause is from reports from homeowners and business owners about any damage to their property,” Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Justin McInnis said. “Having this data also helps Emergency Management prioritize response, manage assets, and pull together outside resources based on the responses we receive from homeowners and business owners. If your property sustained damage from flooding or other rain damage, winds, lightning, etc., on that stormy Tuesday it would be helpful for us to know about it.”

McInnis noted that reporting damage to Emergency Management is a voluntary activity and is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency. He cautioned that a request for assistance from state or federal agencies is not anticipated.
