Here’s Your Friday COVID-19 Update For Texas, World

Hays County Will Release COVID-19 Numbers For This Week On Monday

EDITORIAL NOTE
According to the CDC, the State of Texas and Hays County Public Health all give the same disclaimer on all current counts and totals. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a very fluid situation, and it will continue to be. All case numbers and totals are subject to change. As new information becomes available, we will publish those updates.”

On February 12, the state announced that Texas will receive 401,650, and Hays County will receive 4,450 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the federal government for the week of Feb. 15. That’s over double the number of first-time doses they received last week.

Hays County will receive 1,950 doses of Pfizer and 2,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine and does not include the number of second doses the state is sent routinely.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship those doses to 302 providers in 158 counties across Texas.

That includes 85 hub providers that will focus on broader community vaccination efforts including the hardest hit populations and areas in exchange for a steady supply of vaccines from week to week.

An additional 217 providers will receive doses next week with a focus on those that serve older adults, such as health departments, pharmacies, federally qualified health centers, community and rural clinics, and some medical practices that specialize in care for older adults.

Hays County has an estimated population of 230,191 with 19,655 (8.54 percent) that have received their first dose, 6,066 that have been fully vaccinated, and has an estimated 183,380 people between the ages of 16 years and older.

Texas has an estimated population of 29 million and has vaccinated at least 2,794,008 with their first dose and 1,035,543 that have been fully vaccinated.
