EVENT: Camp HeartSong, Too!

DESCRIPTION: Camp HeartSong, Too! is a day camp for adolescents ages 14 to 18 who have experienced a significant death in their life. Teens will spend two days participating in group activities including sports, gaming, ropes course and arts and crafts.

EVENT: Social Spin – Patriotic Theme
DATE: June 10
TIME: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

DESCRIPTION: Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), in partnership with the City of San Marcos, presents its next free Social Spin dance. The event will feature a patriotic theme, and guests are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. The dances are designed to encourage a healthy celebration of activity, healthy refreshments and developing more interpersonal relationships among senior citizens. Angels for Elders and Senior Living Choices are sponsoring the refreshments for this event.

EVENT: FREE Balance Screening (Appointment Required)
DATE: June 17
TIME: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: CTMC Rehabilitation Institute, 1340 Wonder World Drive, Building 2, Suite 2100, San Marcos, TX
 
DESCRIPTION: The free, 20-minute balance screening includes blood pressure readings in three different positions and various balance assessment tests. Participants will be able to review their results with a CTMC physical therapist who will offer recommendations and referrals for those who need further evaluation.
 
There are several benefits to getting a balance screening, including:
•         Determining if the cause of a fall or loss of balance is related to a physical deficit, muscles, joints or equilibrium
•         Preventing a fall by identifying areas of weakness
•         Restoring function after a fall or near fall
•         Determining if a referral to a specialist or physical therapist is needed

EVENT: Finding Balance class for seniors
DATE: June 17
TIME: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
LOCATION: San Marcos Activity Center – 501 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, TX
 
DESCRIPTION: “Finding Balance” is an exercise class designed to help individuals 60 and older to strengthen their balance, which improves safety by decreasing the risk of falls. Added benefits include an improved confidence, enhanced strength and flexibility, a boosted immune system and a maintained or increased level of mobility. People of all activity levels are encouraged to attend.
