Buda Citizens’ Academy opens registration for the Fall 2021 program

Buda, TEXAS — The City of Buda will open registration beginning Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 30 for its 2021 Buda Citizens’ Academy (BCA).

The BCA, which begins Aug. 26 and runs through Nov. 18 this year, is a program designed to give participants an inside look at the inter-workings of municipal government operations and services through 2-hour courses (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.), once per week for 13 weeks.

The courses primarily are held on Thursday evenings at Buda City Hall, with the exception of a Public Works course, which is held 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday and includes a tour of the Buda Wastewater Treatment Plant. Only Buda residents may participate in the academy.

By completing a minimum of 10 of the 13 courses, participants will earn a certificate of completion at a graduation ceremony. “This program is an excellent opportunity for aspiring commissioners or council members to better understand how the city’s departments function and gain an overview of how they are funded,” Isabel Fernandez, executive assistant to the city manager and BCA coordinator, said. “Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were not able to offer the academy last year, so we are really excited about bringing this valuable program back to our citizens,” she added.

Registration is limited to 20 participants. To secure a position in the 2021 cohort, interested Buda residents will be able to complete an online application on the City of Buda’s website or fill out an application in person at City Hall, 405 E. Loop St., Buda, TX 78610.
