Living Outside the Lines: Doctor, Doctor

By, Becky J. Miller

Doctor visits are not generally labeled enjoyable, exhilarating or easy.  Inconvenient, expensive, and a necessary nuisance are better adjectives for describing these compulsory appointments.  If anyone just LOVES visiting the doctor, they’ve not crossed paths with me.  It is within the realm of possibility for such a creature to exist, but so are the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, and El Chupacabra. Until I have a signed affidavit to the contrary, we’ll stick to my theory; Doctors = Not fun.

It’s not my intention to hate on medical professionals, after all, one does generally begin feeling better after treatment.  It’s the getting there that is so often difficult.  I might not even go for annual check ups if my insurance premiums weren’t impacted.  My healthcare coverage has lower monthly premiums, deductibles and co-pays associated with annual screenings.  Can you say… #Motivation?

As an athlete, pain or injuries that might keep me from running will most certainly cause me to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with my Airrosti provider.  There is an Airrosti clinic right here in San Marcos housed inside San Marcos Family Medicine on Hunter Road.

My first experience with Airrosti occurred in 2011 after a bad car accident. Recovering from a broken neck, broken clavicle and broken collarbone, my mobility was severely limited. Physical therapy helped tremendously, but there was still room for improvement. Dr. Randy Christensen, and Airrosti treatments helped me regain about 90% of my range of motion.  Dr. Christensen has also treated me for plantar fasciitis, a sprained ankle and most recently a bum knee.

Were you to query them, my husband, daughter and youngest son would also chime in with their own high praises for Airrosit treatments.  The three of them have been treated for ailments ranging from a strained back due to football, accident related stressed meniscus &  good ol’ runners rolled ankle.

For me, the plantar fasciitis treatments were huge since the injury struck right as I was training for the 2015 London Marathon. I was able to maintain my training while undergoing treatment. Dr. Christensen knew how important the race was to me, and Airrosti delivered the results I needed to complete it.

What is Airrosti?  According to their website http://www.airrosti.com/faq/, “Airrosti is a health care group that employs and trains providers who specialize in delivering high quality, outcome-based musculoskeletal care. Our focus on one-on-one patient time and a strict adherence to clinical best practices helps significantly reduce recover times for patients, while preventing many unnecessary costs associated with imaging, pharmaceuticals, and even surgical procedures.”

The premise behind Airrosti is to help patients avoid surgery, and see improvements in an average of three visits.  Each visit lasts one hour; 30 minutes for a clinical assessment, and treatment followed by 30 minutes of “active rehab to speed recovery and prevent future injuries.”

Airrosti.com also boasts some impressive statistics:  Total Number of Patient Cases:  337,782, Average Treatment Duration: 3.2, Recommended Surgeries Avoided:  7,388, Total Number of Patient Visits: 1,103,084

The A-Z list of injuries treated by Airrosti starts with Achilles tendonitis, includes headaches/migraines, and ends with wrist sprain/strain. For anyone experiencing type of soft tissue or joint injuries, the treatment is definitely worth the time and co-pay.

Let me offer this one bit of warning though, the treatments though successful, can be uncomfortable, even tear inducing.  And, there’s always homework, stretching and exercises to be done at home between visits.  These are two very small short-term costs associated with invaluable, long-term results.

Tired of dealing with those aches and pains? What are you waiting for, an embossed invitation? Go give ‘em a call, and be sure to let them know you heard it first at San Marcos Corridor News!

Until Next Time,
