County Commissioners Proclaim April Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness Month
Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court Tuesday called upon everyone in Hays County to become more aware of child abuse and proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness month.
According to the proclamation, nearly 400 children in Hays County were confirmed victims of child abuse in 2014, and in Texas as a whole more than 66,500 cases of child abuse and neglect were confirmed. Child abuse caused the deaths of 151 children and the placement of 31,176 children into foster care throughout the state.
The Court also thanked the Hays County Welfare Board, District Attorney’s Office, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and Roxanne’s House, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the San Marcos, Buda and Kyle Police Departments, Hays County Sheriff’s Office and CTMC for joining forces to provide preventive and supportive services to child victims and their families.
