Commentary: Memorial Day Is A Solemn But Treasured Holiday
Dear Friends:
Memorial Day is a solemn but treasured holiday. More than just a day off, it’s one of the few opportunities we set aside to celebrate selflessness — a quality our culture doesn’t often encourage — and express our gratitude. The men and women who have given their lives for our freedom deserve our utmost respect.
This Memorial Day is especially poignant since it marks the anniversary of the tragic flooding that claimed the lives of too many of our friends and neighbors. Today, I mourn their deaths and those of all who gave what Abraham Lincoln called “the last full measure of devotion.”
