Breaking: GED And ESL Classes Canceled At San Marcos Public Library

SAN MARCOS, TX ––The rain started around 11 a.m. on Tuesday and caused flood damage to the San Marcos Library.

The San Marcos Public Library has canceled General Education Development and English as a Second Language classes for the rest of the week due to storm damages to the classroom.

“We have had leaks all along the back side of the library. We have schematics crews taking out ceiling tiles at the moment along the whole length of the back of the library,” said Diane Insley, San Marcos Public Library director.

The library has 46 public access computers available for residents’ use, and although 25 stations remain operable, several were damaged by flooding.

“The storm knocked out 14 public use computers in the learning center,” Insley said.

The downpour caused water damage to the back of the library, the learning center and a staff break room, but no books were damaged.

“We canceled the GED and ESL classes so that we can use that classroom to lay out parts to dry from areas with water damage,” Insley said.

The library will remain open during normal business hours and classes will resume Monday.
