PEC now taking community grant applications

Nonprofits encouraged to apply by April 1

JOHNSON CITY, Texas — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is accepting applications for community grants through Friday, April 1 at 11:59 p.m. Nonprofits within, or surrounding PEC’s service territory, are encouraged to apply for up to $5,000 grants.

Twice a year, PEC awards grants to local nonprofits for projects involving technology, capital improvements, or equipment related to energy efficiency. In the fall of 2021, PEC awarded $28,000 in community grants. Since launching the program five years ago, PEC has provided more than $268,150 in funding to 66 organizations.

“By partnering with our members, we are able to do so much for our communities, including helping nonprofits make positive impacts,” PEC Community Relations Manager Caroline Tinsley Porter said. “By helping their missions, we are staying true to our cooperative principles, showing concern for communities and paving the way for them to grow stronger.”

PEC grants are funded exclusively by the generosity of the cooperative’s members through PEC’s Power of Change Program, which allows members to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar for charity.

Signing up for Power of Change is easy and allows PEC members to support nonprofits that help make their community stronger. The average donation is only about $6 per year.

Members interested in supporting local nonprofits may enroll in Power of Change via SmartHub, by phone, on their payment slip, or in-person at any PEC office. See a list of the latest PEC Community Grant Recipients here.
