Hays County Jury Finds Ramos Guilty On Multiple Accounts

State of Texas v. Louis Anthony Ramos, 1 count of Murder and 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

A Hays County jury today found Louis Anthony Ramos, age 28, guilty of Murder for shooting to death Johnny Saxon, age 48, and guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for pointing a gun and threatening the lives of Saxon’s daughter, age 13, and his mother, age 75.

The Saxon family rented Ramos a trailer on their Hays County property. The Saxon and Ramos families were not only neighbors, but they were also friends. However, on June 4, 2014, Ramos grabbed a gun and shot Saxon to death in front of Saxon’s daughter. Ramos then used the same gun to threaten to shoot Saxon’s daughter and his mother if either called the police.

Earlier the same day, Ramos assaulted his then girlfriend in front of her children at a neighborhood pool, which lead to Saxon picking up Ramos’ girlfriend, and her children and taking them away back to his property that he shared with Ramos. Ramos also returned to Saxon’s property and tried to reinitiate contact with his girlfriend. Later, Ramos engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with a mutual friend, Rick Clark, outside of Saxon’s home. Saxon and others begged Ramos to leave Saxon’s residence. Ramos eventually walked back to his trailer, grabbed a firearm, and returned looking for Clark. When Saxon turned the corner of his home to get Ramos to leave, Ramos shot Saxon dead.

The jury will return in the morning to hear punishment evidence. The defendant faces a sentence of up to life in prison and a $10,000 fine.
