The Traffic Control Box Art program is designed to beautify the city by adding works of art to the streetscape on surfaces that are often targeted by graffiti vandals. Winning designs will be digitized and printed on vinyl wraps to be placed on traffic control boxes at various locations throughout the city.

Submissions should be e-mailed to Recreation Manager Lisa Morris, lmorris@sanmarcostx.gov, or mailed to 401 E. Hopkins, San Marcos TX 78666. Submissions must be delivered or postmarked no later than Feb. 28, 2018.

Proposed art projects should meet the following objectives:

  • Include all visible sides of the traffic signal box
  • Be thoughtful about having large areas on their artwork giving vandals a space to deface the work

To be considered, applicant must submit the following:

  • Current resume
  • Typed statement briefly explaining the proposed design (one page maximum)
  • Projects can be new or existing artwork
  • Digital submissions only—artwork can be submitted via CD or flash drive if the file size is to large to send via email.

Artists may submit more than one design proposal. A statement for each design must be submitted.

Do not bind application materials or put them in a notebook or binder.

If selected, artists will receive a $300 commission per box. For full submission details, visit the City’s Call for Artist page: www.sanmarcostx.gov/arts
