San Marcos River: Life at 72 Degrees Video Debuts

The City has debuted a video featuring one of the natural wonders of our state.

San Marcos River: Life at 72 Degrees is a river awareness video to explain the delicacy and beauty of the San Marcos River and how to respect the river while enjoying it.

Filmed as a float trip down the San Marcos River, the video follows host Kory Kelly as he explains the park rules and points out special features of the river, including the endangered species that can be found nowhere else on earth.

“San Marcos River: Life at 72 Degrees will help visitors and residents get a better understanding how their actions affect the aquatic life. For instance, even the smallest piece of litter, micro-litter, can find its way into the river and be a health hazard for fish, turtles, and birds,” said Amy Kirwin, Community Enhancement Initiatives Manager.

“The San Marcos River is so unique – this film provides an exciting opportunity to share this information with river users,” Melani Howard, Habitat Conservation Plan Manager. “Hopefully, it will enhance their recreational experience while protecting our river and parks.”

We would like to thank local musicians Crystal Creek Boys for providing a soundtrack that reflects San Marcos; the San Marcos Lions Club, and the Texas State University football program both for being extras. The video was a collaborative effort of the Community Services Department’s Habitat Conservation Plan, Keep San Marcos Beautiful program, and the Communications Department

The video can be seen online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/ksmb.
