San Marcos Police Department Investigates Bomb Threat At San Marcos Regional Airport

According to a statement from the city of San Marcos, the email advised recipients not to evacuate or call police, otherwise, an explosive device hidden in the building would be detonated.

The San Marcos Police Department and Austin Police Department Bomb squad have cleared the scene after Blue Skies Aviation received an email advising that an explosive device had been planted near the building.

According to a statement from the city of San Marcos, the email advised recipients not to evacuate or call police, otherwise, an explosive device hidden in the building would be detonated. The email demanded payment via cryptocurrency.

City officials said SMPD received intelligence that businesses around the state and country had received similar emails; Blue Skies employees were asked to evacuate before officers performed a cursory sweep of the location.

No suspicious items were found, and the business returned to normal operations.

The San Marcos Police Department is asking other business to report similar emails if received to law enforcement at 512.753.2108; the department is also asking that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
