San Marcos Police, Fire Department Recover Body Of Missing Hays County Man

On January 12, San Marcos Police and Fire Department personnel recovered the body of Omar Maya-Rangel (4.13.86) of Kyle, TX, in the Blanco River. 

Mr. Maya-Rangel had been missing since Dec. 28, 2018.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, San Marcos emergency crews responded to the 1800 block of River Road following a report of a body in the Blanco River that was discovered by a hiker. 

Public safety responders worked to recover the body, which was identified by tattoos and ID found in his pocket as Omar Maya-Rangel, age 32. 

Mr. Maya-Rangel was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno. An autopsy will be conducted next week by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A press release issued Jan. 4, 2019, by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office detailed that Mr. Maya-Rangel had been reported as a missing person from Kyle, TX as of Dec. 28, 2018, and his vehicle had been located on Dec. 31, 2018, in Caldwell County.

The initial missing person’s report mentioned that he was having mental health issues at the time of his disappearance. The incident was being investigated by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department.

The San Marcos Police Department Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to conduct the death investigation, which is ongoing.
