San Marcos Police Respond To Welfare Concern, Rescue Woman

On Tuesday night, San Marcos Police rescued a woman who was being unlawfully restrained and assaulted in her apartment.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 at about 9:58 p.m., San Marcos Police responded to The Palm Apartments, 1360 Thorpe Lane, in regard to a welfare concern.

The complainant requested SMPD to check the welfare of the victim/resident due to receiving a concerning text message from the victim.

Responding officers conducted a preliminary investigation and believed the victim was being held against her will inside the apartment by her ex-boyfriend, Timothy Gomez (DOB 01/15/1995).

It was also determined that Gomez had an active felony arrest warrant out of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary of Habitation with Intent to Commit Felony.

Additionally, Gomez was known to carry weapons and be violent.

The combined San Marcos-Hays County SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) were activated for the potential hostage situation.

During SWAT and CID preplanning operations, CNT was able to make telephone contact with Gomez. The CNT was able to negotiate Gomez into voluntarily exiting the residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was located inside the apartment and was interviewed. The victim explained Gomez held her against her will for approximately 24 hours. During that time, the suspect assaulted the victim at least twice, causing visible injuries.

Gomez was taken to the Hays County Law Enforcement Center where he is being held on the Burglary of Habitation warrant, along with additional charges of Continuous Violence against Family/Household and Unlawful Restraint. The incident remains under investigation by SMPD detectives.
