San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter At Capacity, Seeks Forever Homes For Pets

“We have many animals ready for adoption, but there’s no room for them yet on the adoption floor,” said Shelter Supervisor Erin McCann.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is currently at maximum capacity for animals and is holding a “Back to School” adoption special to encourage residents to give pets in the shelter their forever homes.

All pets, including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, and other small pets, are adoptable for only $30. Adoption fees cover a pet’s spay or neuter, microchip, kennel vaccinations, rabies vaccine and City license.

It is common for animal shelters to be overwhelmingly full of adoptable pets during the spring and summer season. Without adoptions, the shelter cannot continue to take animals in need from the public.

“We have many animals ready for adoption, but there’s no room for them yet on the adoption floor,” said Shelter Supervisor Erin McCann. “We need community support now more than ever.”

All adoption-ready animals, including those not currently on the adoption floor, are available for viewing online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/animaladoptions.

For more information or to view adoptable pets, go to www.sanmarcostx.gov/animaladoptions or visit the shelter in person. The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is located at 750 River Road and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
