TxDot Awards Contracts For Area Road Work

$8 million in contracts approved in Blanco, Hays, and Williamson counties

The Texas Department of Transportation is moving ahead with a series of resurfacing projects across the Austin District to make the roads smoother, safer, and more durable after recent approval by the Texas Transportation Commission.

Angel Brothers Holdings Company won a $2 million contract to resurface the I-35 frontage roads between Slaughter Lane and the Hays County line. Work on the project is expected to begin this summer and take about three months to complete.

In Williamson County, crews from Ramming Paving will be working on two sections of SH 29. Crews will seal the roadway and add a new thin asphalt overlay. The SH 29 sections stretch between Cedar Hollow Road and River Chase Boulevard, west of I-35, and between Northeast Inner Loop and FM 1660. The two contracts total $3.5 million, with work to begin around the end of spring.

Lone Star Paving Company will be working on I-35 in Hays County and on US 281 in Blanco County, starting late spring/early summer. The work calls for removing the old pavement, repairing and sealing the road, and applying a new pavement surface. The $1.16 million I-35 frontage road resurfacing project will take place in San Marcos between the Blanco River and SH 123. The $1.4 million US 281 resurfacing work will take place between US 290 and Miller Creek in Blanco County.

Drivers should be patient and remain aware of construction crews when traveling through the work zone. In addition, motorists should obey all warning signs and allow extra travel time to ensure we all make it home safely at the end of the day.
