County Commissioners Invite Public to Discuss Changes for I-35/Posey Road Interchange

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe and Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley will join the Texas Department of Transportation at an Open House on Tuesday, January 13, to discuss improvements to the I-35 and Posey Road interchange in south Hays County.

“Posey Road at I-35 is the last major intersection along I-35 in Hays County to undergo necessary changes to keep up with our growing population and increased traffic,” Commissioner Ingalsbe said. “We want to ensure that all our residents who live in the area and those who travel it frequently have an opportunity to learn what possible changes can be made to improve safety by smoothing the flow of traffic over and around that intersection.”

Changes could include removing the existing Posey Road Bridge and reconstructing I-35 over Posey Road, along with six ramp reversals and conversion of two-way frontage roads while ensuring a fit with any future upgrades to I-35 as a transportation corridor.

“The intersection is critical for continued economic growth in the area,” Commissioner Conley said. “Several businesses that would have brought jobs to the area declined to build there in part because of the difficult access. I think anyone who has traveled that intersection recently would agree that it is no longer adequate for the amount of traffic in the area.”

The Open House will allow the public to ask questions, share comments, review environmental constraints and talk one-on-one with project team members from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at the First Baptist Church, 325 W. McCarty Lane, San Marcos. A Spanish-language translator will be available.
