SMEU Employees To Compete In Lineman’s Rodeo Saturday

The rodeo offers Texas line workers a place to showcase their skills among their peers in a fun, family-oriented competitive event.

San Marcos Electric Utility employees will compete in the 22nd Annual Texas Lineman’s Rodeo this weekend at Nolte Island Park in Seguin.

Apprentices Tyler Mattke and Mathew Clark will be competing individually with 130 other apprentices from utilities around the state. The events consist of a Pole Climb, Hurt Man Rescue, Equipotential Grounding with Arrestor Change-Out, and one mystery event that they will be revealed to them Friday before the event.

The journeyman team, consisting of Sammy Clark, Daniel Alvarez and Alonzo Longoria, will compete with 48 other teams from around Texas in the Hurt Man Rescue, Pole Climb and two mystery events that will be revealed to them on Friday.

The rodeo offers Texas line workers a place to showcase their skills among their peers in a fun, family-oriented competitive event.

The Texas Lineman’s Rodeo Association promotes continuing education and safety activities for Texas line workers, encourages cost-reducing efficiency and proficiency methods in the work environment, and networking among professionals in the industry and among utilities in the state.
