San Marcos Police are looking for suspects in an attempted carjacking Monday and a carjacking late last month that investigators believe are related.

Oct. 1 attempted armed robbery
Around 11:52 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 a female victim was driving home to her residence off Candlelight Lane and was followed by a white 4-door passenger car. When the victim parked her vehicle in the driveway, she was approached by two black males armed with handguns. The suspects ordered the victim out of the vehicle but left the area when the victim dialed 911.

Sept. 23 armed robbery
Around 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 two suspects with handguns approached a male victim as he was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot at Cabana Beach Apartments, 1250 Sadler Drive.

One of the suspects entered the victim’s vehicle and forced the victim to drive it away from the apartment complex. Ultimately, the victim was released uninjured, but the suspect stole the victim’s vehicle. The second suspect was driving a white 4-door passenger car and followed the victim vehicle during the robbery. He subsequently followed the victim’s vehicle after the theft.

The victim described the suspects as “younger-looking” males, one black and one white.

Initial investigations have revealed the victims are unrelated, and both appear to be randomly selected. Both crimes occurred in the overnight to early morning hours in residential parts of the city within a geographically small area.

The victims in the incidents described both white and black male suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts with hoods drawn and bandanas covering their faces. The suspect vehicle is a white 4-door passenger car.

Tips for the public

• Stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings and watch for the possibility of someone following you;
• If you believe you are being followed, change your route, contact 911, and drive to the Police Department or a well-lit, populated area;
• Avoid sitting in your vehicle and not paying attention to your surroundings or being preoccupied with mobile devices.
