SMPD Responds to Separate Incidents Involving Weapons

The San Marcos Police Department responded to two separate incidents involving weapons Thursday evening.

Accidental shooting

A man was injured Thursday evening in his apartment when a firearm discharged in a neighboring apartment, sending a single bullet through the wall that struck the man in his forearm.

Police and medics responded to 1655 Mill Street (The Thompson apartment complex) at 5:14 p.m. after a man reported that his brother had been shot.

The shooter, Trevor Scott Deckert (DOB 02/26/1996), who lives in the apartment to the left and shares the front landing, admitted he accidentally discharged his pistol.  He was arrested on charges of Deadly Conduct.

The victim was transported to St. David’s South Austin by EMS.

Aggravated robbery

At 8:10 p.m., officers responded to a reported aggravated robbery at the Jimmy John’s restaurant at 1290 Wonder World Drive.

Restaurant staff reported a man wearing a mask threatened employees with a knife and took cash from the register and personal property from employees.

He escaped with the stolen money and property before officers could arrive.

Police worked with Jimmy John’s staff and were able to find the suspect at a residence in Guadalupe County at 9:07 p.m.

Johnny Sierra III (DOB 03/20/1986) was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Robbery; as well as possession of controlled substances and possession of marijuana.

Police recovered several items which linked him to the crime including clothing worn during the robbery, the suspected weapon used, several different types of drugs, and the suspected mask worn. Officers were unable to locate a large portion of the stolen money or some property that belonged to one of the Jimmy John’s employees.

There were no injuries during the robbery and subsequent arrest.
