Stokes Family – Letter To The Editor

We can simply state that the San Marcos River generates millions of dollars for the city. Why, knowingly, would our city council make the San Marcos River less attractive?

Mayor and City Council:

With reference to her Letter to the Editor, I am writing you to say that I am in full support of restoring the dam at Capes Camp. Her letter stated that there was an understanding between the State and the Stokes family. You hold in your hand the honor following the wishes of the Stokes family. Our community was formed and prospered because of men like Mr. Stokes.

More information is being distributed concerning falsifying previously notarized documents and the use of improperly stated measurements. Is Dr. Hardy a PE? Other PE’s are using Dr. Hardy’s measurements in their documentation and stating that they did not physically measure but are writing reports as such. I’m surprised that a formal complaint to that professional organization in Austin hasn’t been submitted.

You’ve heard from thousands of concerned citizens. You’re monitoring Facebook pages and weighing this incredible dilemma. Support for the restoration of Capes Dam is mounting by leaps and bounds. The integrity of the city council is in question as stated by many people drinking coffee at Cafe on the Square. I’m there every Monday morning at 8am. I hear it and am in some heated discussions.

Recently, Hays County Commission Mark Jones spoke at a San Marcos Lions Club meeting and stated that Hays County is growing rapidly. He states that many families are moving here avoiding higher taxes in Travis County, taking advantage of the wonderful community and enjoying the natural treasure, The San Marcos River. We can simply state that the San Marcos River generates millions of dollars for the city. Why, knowingly, would our city council make the San Marcos River less attractive?

The continued rich history of our community pivots on the city council’s final decision.

As a private citizen. I urge you to take the lead urging the city council to no longer pursue the removal of Capes Dam.

Thank you for your time.
