Suspicious Death of Kyle Victim Services Coordinator

Samantha Dean, 29, was found dead behind a vacant shopping center development in Bastrop and according to her parents she was 6 months pregnant.

According to KXAN, a Bastrop County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling the parking lot at 118 Stephen F. Austin Blvd. at 2 a.m. Wednesday found Dean’s body lying next to a late-model black Dodge Charger that had one of its doors open. The car was parked behind the Shoppes at Colony Village shopping center, just west of the city border at the entrance to an upscale neighborhood. The shopping center has stood vacant since it was built seven years ago and neighbors say they have noticed suspicious late night activity there in the past.

Police spent Thursday searching her South Austin home for any clues that could lead them to a suspect. An autopsy confirmed Dean was shot to death, but officials are still conducting toxicology tests and other analysis. Bastrop County Sheriff’s officials are working with Kyle and Austin police, Texas Rangers and other Department of Public Safety technicians on this case.

According to statements from her colleagues they were getting ready to throw her a baby shower, and Ms. Dean was looking forward to the birth, and was very excited.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Kyle City Manager, Scott Sellers,  “Our staff, city council and entire community is heartbroken tonight as we’ve learned of the passing of one of our City of Kyle family. In her role as Victim Services Coordinator, Samantha Dean helped a lot of people who otherwise might have been without her special kind of compassion and caring. Samantha’s loss leaves an enormous hole in our hearts and in our community. Please join us as we pray for her family and friends in this time of mourning.”

The City of Kyle is providing grief counseling for their employees as they work through this very tragic loss.

Inquiries about the investigation into her death should be directed to the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department.

The final arraignments for Ms. Dean have not been made as of yet.
