“It is with great interest and excitement that I am applying for the position of Johnson High School band director,” said Lucita in his application cover letter. “All students have the ability to excel if they are provided with an atmosphere that welcomes and encourages the building of relationships, the student’s exploration of education and the promotion of high self-esteem. It is through a strong fine arts program such as band that students will openly want to attend school, be challenged, and strive to succeed.”

Lucita began his career as an educator in 1991 as an assistant band direct

or for West Columbia High School in Columbia, Texas. The following year he moves to Port Lavaca, Texas, to serve as the assistant band director for Calhoun High School.

In 1994, he was hired at Jack C. Hays High School as an associate band director. He has worked in the district since, becoming director of bands for Lehman High School in 2004.

In conjunction with his role as a fine arts educator, Lucita has also served in a variety of campus leadership capacities and on a number of district employee and community committees.

“I believe that these additional roles are a key component to being fully invested in not just the well-being of a campus program, but in the success of a campus as a whole, and that of the district and our community,” said Lucita.

“I am thrilled Mr. Lucita sought the opportunity and will be joining the Johnson High School team. He has an award-winning track record in our district and I know he will help our students put the Jaguar music program on the map from day one,” said Johnson High School Principal Brett Miksch. “The opportunity to start a full music program at a new high school, and to help grow that program into something successful presents unique and exciting possibilities.”

Lucita, has led two bands to state University Interscholastic League (UIL) marching contest championship final rounds and 24 bands to earn UIL Sweepstakes Awards in competition.

Additionally, under his direction, bands have earned numerous Best in Class and First Division awards at both marching and concert invitational festivals. Lucita’s students in Hays CISD have selected him as their most influential and inspiring teacher 17 times.
