Women’s Track, Field Sweeps SBC Outdoor Honors

The Bobcat women completed the indoor and outdoor sweep of the SBC Championships with a dominating performance of 154.5 points, the most for the program since joining the league.

NEW ORLEANS – Coming off the program’s first-ever Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championship, the Texas State track and field team swept the conference’s outdoor individual honors that was selected by a vote of the league’s coaches.

Receiving the awards were Tramesha Hardy (Most Outstanding Track Athlete), Julie Lange (Most Outstanding Field Athlete), Devina Schneider (Freshman and Newcomer of the Year) and Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jody Stewart (Coach of the Year).

Hardy won two individual gold medals in the 100m and 200m dashes and helped the 4x400m relay earn the bronze. The sophomore posted personal bests times of 11.38 and 23.06 in the 100m and 200m dash finals, respectively.

Her times also rank in the top three in program history and she was just shy of tying the school’s 200m record.

This is the second year in-a-row that Hardy has swept the indoor and outdoor honors for a SBC award having been named the conference’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete following the indoor championships.

In 2016, the Houston native was named the league’s Freshman of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Lange walked out of her final SBC meet with two silver and one bronze medals. She posted distances of 58.82m (193-0) and 52.61m (172-7) in the discus and hammer throws, respectively, for runner-up finishes.

She recorded a mark of 16.23m (53-3) on her fifth attempt to finish third in the shot put. Her 22 points were the third most scored by a female athlete at the championships.

A freshman, Schneider shined in her first SBC Outdoor Championships. She was the meet’s high scorer with 24 points after winning a gold, silver and bronze medals in the three events she ran.

On the first day of competition, Schneider broke her own school record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:52.83 for her first career outdoor gold medal. The Bellaire, Texas native was the runner-up in the 1500m (4:31.35) and claimed third in the 5000m (17:55.91).

Stewart claimed his third SBC Coach of the Year award since taking over the Texas State program in the fall of 2015. The Bobcat women completed the indoor and outdoor sweep of the SBC Championships with a dominating performance of 154.5 points, the most for the program since joining the league.

Next up for the Bobcats is the NCAA West Preliminary meet that will take place May 25-27 up in Austin at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
