National Night Out Registration Begins In Hays County

The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler is pleased to announce that on October 3, 2017, Hays County will be participating along with the rest of Texas to celebrate National Night Out Against Crime.

The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts. Initially communities held lights-on vigils; now many communities hold block parties, festivals, and other events to help bring neighbors together.

National Night Out is designed to:

  1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
  2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
  3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
  4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Neighborhoods are encouraged to register with the Sheriff’s Office by obtaining an application at http://www.co.hays.tx.us/sheriff.aspx and with the National Association of Town Watch at https://natw.org/registration. Please check with your local law enforcement or your neighborhood coordinator to see if your neighborhood is registered. Applications should be received by September 18, 2017.
