City Of Buda Issues Scam Alert Regarding Caller Using City Numbers

The City of Buda continues to experience a scam involving a caller who is telling residents there is “fraudulent activity” as well as “outstanding tickets” and is asserting immediate compliance.

According to the city, it appears the caller is spoofing a City of Buda number.

Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity.

If someone calls a resident from a number related to the City of Buda claiming that their social security number has been compromised and/or they have outstanding payments, this is a scam.

Residents can ask for the caller’s name, hang up and call the City back with the information you received. Residents are also encouraged to report this to the Buda Police Department at 512-393-7896.

The City of Buda asks residents to remember they will never request a resident’s personal information over the phone; residents are able to make secure payments on the city’s website for all utility and traffic ticket matters. Please visit the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Information page for tips on how to avoid scammers.
