Texas State Opera, Orchestras Reimagines Mozart In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
SAN MARCOS, TX — Texas State University Opera Theatre will present The Magic Flute: Episode I, a reimagining of Mozart’s opera classic in collaboration with Texas State Orchestras March 28 thru March 31 in the Performing Arts Center’s Patti Strickel Harrison Theatre, 405 Moon St.
This unique take on the famous opera is set in a galaxy far, far away in which the protagonist, Tamino, crashes into a strange planet after being attacked by a giant space serpent only to be saved by three ladies in black and drawn into a galactic conflict.
The production will make use of new dialogue in English and singing in German with English supertitles written by Caitlin Turnage, an award-winning masters student playwright.
“This is going to be an epic show! Whether you are a Star Wars fan or not – whether you are an opera fan or not, this show has something for everyone to enjoy,” says Dr. Marc Reynolds, Director of Opera Studies at Texas State.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 28 thru March 30 and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31st. This event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased in advance at www.txstatepresents.com or at the box office beginning one hour before the show.
Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for children, military, seniors and students. Parking is available in the Edward Gary Street Garage located across from the Performing Arts Center.
