Texas State Soccer Back Home Against Arkansas State And Little Rock

Between the posts, Heather Martin recorded her third shutout of the year and ninth in her career against the Jaguars. She lowered her GAA to 0.60, the lowest in the Sunbelt.


SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team returns to the Bobcat Soccer Complex for two matches this weekend.

First up is Little Rock at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a Sunday afternoon contest against Arkansas State that kicks off at 1 p.m.

Entering the weekend, the Bobcats are 5-5-0 on the season and tied for first in the Sunbelt Conference at 3-0-0.

The Trojans come in 6-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play while the Red Wolves are 5-2-2 on the year and 2-0-0 in the Sunbelt.

Last weekend TXST went on the road and defeated Louisiana 2-1 in double overtime and then downed preseason favorite and five-time defending conference champion South Alabama 1-0. Kaylee Davis netted a goal in each match to extend her goal scoring streak to four matches.

It is the second year in a row that a Bobcat has netted a goal in four consecutive matches as Kassi Hormuth did so last year from Oct. 8-20.

For the season, Davis has accounted for half of the team’s 14 goals. She is one of seven to have scored a goal with the latest being Ally Kewish, who scored the match-winner against the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Jordan Kondikoff remains the only other Bobcat to score multiple goals (2). The Mesquite, Texas native paces Texas State with three assists. Being credited with two assists on the year are Renny Moore, Mackenzie Smith and Genesis Turman.

The Midlothian, Texas native has made 41 saves and has a .911 save percentage this season.

Her performance over the weekend versus UL and USA earned her Sunbelt Defensive Player of the Week honors for this first time this season and fourth time in her career.

Scouting Little Rock

Little Rock is coming off a 1-0 victory at home last Friday against Georgia State. The Trojans opened conference play with a 2-1 loss versus Coastal Carolina that was played at Kennesaw State because of Hurricane Florence affecting the coastal area of the Carolinas.

When playing on the road, LR is 3-0-1 with victories over Mississippi Valley State (3-0), Missouri State (1-0) and Sam Houston State (1-0) while the lone draw was a 1-1 contest against Central Arkansas.

Jaclyn Purvine has scored seven goals, four match-winning goals and 16 points, all coming during non-conference play. Her match-winning goal and point totals rank first in the conference and she shares the lead in goals with Davis. Finding the back of the net three times has been Maeve Burger.

Arola Aparicio has scored twice and is tied for second on the team with three assists along with Sairra Tucker. Coming in with a team-high four assists and 25 shots is Doro Greulich.

Sara Johnannsdottir has started all 10 matches in goal. She has a 0.97 GAA, 41 saves, a .820 save percentage and three solo shutouts.

Both Kelly Hogan and Hilma Svlander have made two appearances off the bench in goal in contests against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and MVSU while recording two saves apiece.

The Trojans lead the Sunbelt in shots (133), points (54), goals (20), and shutouts (5) and are tied in assists (14) with the Bobcats. LR is also second in fewest goals allowed (9) and GAA (0.86).

Series vs. Trojans

Texas States has won all five previous meetings against Little Rock with the last four being decided by a goal.

The last three matches have all gone to overtime with the 2015 and 2017 matchups being decided in the second overtime period.

Last year saw the Bobcats win 3-2 in double overtime that saw Alyssa Phelan net the winner after a cross from Davis following a throw-in to her form Jamie Brown.

Friday will be the fourth meeting in San Marcos between the programs. The last meeting at the Bobcat Soccer Complex was on Sept. 16, 2016.

That night, Lauren Prater scored the lone goal of the match early in the 95th minute in what was the Bobcats’ 100th victory on their home pitch and the second annual Teal Match.

Scouting Arkansas State

Arkansas State opened conference play last weekend with a victories at home over Georgia State (2-0) and ULM (4-0). The Red Wolves scheduled Sunbelt opener at Coastal Carolina was postponed to Oct. 25 because of Hurricane Florence.

Prior to facing Texas State, ASU plays at Louisiana on Friday. The Red Wolves are 2-1-1 when playing on the road with victories over Oral Roberts (1-0) and Tulsa (2-1, OT). They lost to Central Arkansas (2-1) and drew 1-1 with St. Louis.

Hailey Furio and Sarah Sodoma lead ASU with three goals each and both Maggie Ertl and Bailey Gellis have netted two goals apiece. Ertl has five assists to pace the Sunbelt. She also leads the team with nine points and is tied for the most shots, 16, with Taylor Schneider.

Both Megan McClure and Kelsey Ponder have played in five matches in goal. McClure has given up five goals in 405:17 minutes for a 1.11 GAA while sporting a .808 save percentage with 21 stops.

Ponder has a 0.60 GAA, the second lowest in the conference, having given up three goals in 447:33 minutes. She also has a .914 save percentage with 32 saves and a 3-1-1 record between the posts.

Series vs. Red Wolves

Texas State leads the all-time series 4-2-0 over Arkansas State. The Bobcats won last year’s meeting 1-0 in Jonesboro when Hormuth headed home a Kira Zapalac corner kick late in the 77th minute.

Last time the teams met in San Marcos was Oct. 9, 2016 and saw the Red Wolves escape with a 1-0 victory on a goal with five minutes left in regulation.
