Texas State Student Sentenced For Killing 4

On Feb. 19, 2016, a Texas State University student was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 when he collided head-on with another vehicle.

Wilson Molinares, 22, pleaded guilty to intoxicated manslaughter and accepted a plea deal for up to 40 years in prison. Molinares will be eligible for parole after he has served 20 years.

Wes Mau, Hays County District Attorney, said there was no way to put the family of the tragedy back together, but the case may show young people the consequences of drinking and driving.

Molinares will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years of his sentence.

At the time of the crash, Molinares was in his final semester at Texas State University with a focus in computer science. His bail was set for $1 million but was lowered in March 2016 to $700,000.

Molinares spent two weeks in the hospital following the crash and later had to undergo physical rehab.

On Feb. 19, 2016 at 1:11 am, a Texas State University student was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 when he collided head-on with a minivan. The collision called the minivan, carrying six people, to flip and slide across the highway.

Two minutes later, a truck struck the upside vehicle and threw it further into the interstate.

Heinrich Martens, 31, was the driving husband and wife, Margaretha Hildebrande, 27, and Gerard Hiebert Peters, 30, and the couple’s three children from Durango, Mexico to Canada when the accident occurred.

Martens, Hildebrande, Peters, and their 16-month-old son were killed in the accident. Six-year-old Helena Hiebert and three-year-old Mikayla Hiebert survived the accident with minor injuries.
