The 100% all student volunteer recycling program at Texas State, Bobcats Go Green has expanded it’s efforts to include tailgates at Bobcat Football Games.

Bobcats Go Green started their recycling initiative at Bobcat stadium last year to increase recycling at sporting events. Their recycling coordinator Jennel Rayos, expanded the program to include the tailgates this fall. Rayos and other volunteers offer tailgaters trash bags for aluminum, glass and plastic waste to the tailgaters that wish to participate, and the student volunteers collect the recycled material.“This shows that Bobcats Go Green will go that extra mile and do whatever it takes to recyle as much material as possible and still fun at tailgating and not worry about the recyclable trash trown about”, Rayos stated. The student volunteers gathered almost 5 kilo’s at the home opener and 7 kilo’s during the Navy Game, and had a 40 percent increase in recycled material. Bobcats Go Green are hoping for more increases in recyclables in the last two home games. The City of San Marcos has coorinated with Bobcats Go Green to remove the recyclable material.
