The Friends Of The Buda Library Announce Eighth Annual Short Story Writing Contest

The Friends of the Buda Library has announced it will present its Eighth Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Adults. The contest is open to non-professional writers aged 17 and up.

Story: You can submit any short story no longer than 4,000 words. Entries will be judged by local writers, teachers, and librarians based on the quality of the writing, creativity, originality and story.

Entry Fee: $20 (make checks or money orders payable to Friends of the Buda Library). This contest is a Friends of the Buda Library Fundraiser. All entry fees are used for library programs and materials.

Entry Deadline: Stories must be received before the library closes on June 28, 2019. Winner Announcements: All prize winners will be announced in July on the Friends of the Buda Library and Buda Public Library websites. Winners will be individually notified.

Awards: The Friends of the Buda Library will award $200 for the first place story, $100 for the second place, and $50 for the third place. In addition, the winning stories will be published on the Friends of the Buda Public Library website for all to enjoy!

Entry Guidelines:

Short story entries must be 4,000 words or less, in English, double spaced in 12-point font and submitted with entry fee to the Buda Public Library. All entries must be unpublished and original.

The short story must include a cover page with the following information:

  • Author’s name
  • Phone number
  • Postal address
  • E-mail address
  • Word count

All other pages should include TITLE AND PAGE NUMBER ONLY. The author’s name and any other identifying information must not appear anywhere except on the cover page. For anonymous judging, entries will be submitted to judges by assigned number only.

Worldwide copyright on each entry remains with the author. Your entry in this contest grants permission to publish your story in a book to benefit the Buda Public Library.
