The San Marcos Corridor News has officially kicked off, as they ceremonially cut their ribbon in front members of the San Marcos Chambers of Commerce and other invited guests on Thursday, October 9th.

The symbolic gesture took place at Veramendi Park in San Marcos. Melissa Jewett, the Publisher and founder of the San Marcos Corridor News, thanked the guests for showing their support, her staff for months of hard work and her husband, Jeff, for always being there.

Melissa introduced her staff, including interns and spoke about one of her business goals, “As a community, it is essential to mentor our Texas State College Interns. It is our job, as a community to be their mentors, teach them the real world of business, and introduce them to our local contacts. The businesses in San Marcos have to step up to the plate and seize the opportunity do everything we can to keep the excellent scholars that attend Texas State University after graduation.”

Melissa Jewett went on to explain, “We came together and started building the Corridor News in May but this has been an idea of mine for a few years. Hays County, more specifically San Marcos, is one of the fastest growing areas in the entire nation, and currently there are around 176,000 people in Hays County alone. The Central Texas I 35 Corridor has a lot going on and there are a lot of people that need this information. We want to bring them that information, and we believe that we should not charge a subscription fee to receive the news that effects the daily lives of our family, friends, and our community”.
